The Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling, also known as G.L.O.W. was one of my guilty pleasures as a child growing up in the 80s. It was a television show promoting womens wrestling. Created by David McClane, this show was LIVE from the Riviera Hotel in Las Vegas and featured some hilarious characters and over the top skits in between the "wrestling matches."
The good girls were represented by Jackie Stallone (Sylvester Stallone's mother) and the bad girls were managed by Aunt Kitty. There was always some drama going down with the good girls vs. bad girls and somehow I got sucked in every week. I remember getting up on Saturday morning and watching my usual cartoons like The Smurfs and Alvin and the Chipmunks and without fail, I would tune in at 11:00 to catch the latest and greatest episode of G.L.O.W.
Some characters that I remember off the top of my head are as follows:
Hollywood and Vine
The Heavy Metal Sisters (They used to scare the crap out of me) lol
Remember that one with the blow torch? Geez.
The Farmer's Daughter
Susie Spirit
Tina Ferrari and many more.
Remember that cheesy rap they would sing at the beginning of the show?
"We're the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling
We're All Champions in the Ring
We Come from the Streets, We Come from the City
We Come from a World Where There is No Pity"
If you do not remember this rap, you should head over to youtube and type in GLOW rap. See the cheesiness for yourself.
I'm going to have the tune in my head all day now.
Just so you know, this enjoyable series is now available on DVD for all to enjoy once again. You know you love it.
