Come again another day. Wait a minute. NO! Don't ever come back.
I seriously have a huge pet peeve about people just stopping by. I can't stand it. Don't just randomly come by my house, please call first. Solicitors seriously bother me. I mean I know they have to make a living as well, but the pushiness and boldness of some of these people are outrageous. This particular solicitation really upset me.
Yesterday, 2 teenage girls knock on my door, so I opened the door. Mind you, it was freezing cold yesterday with 12 inches of snow on the ground. Like I said, I opened the door, but I always have my guard up, there are a lot of wackos out there.
These girls reeked of cigarette smoke and believe me, I can smell cigarette smoke a mile away. They were speaking of a contest at their school and proceeded to ask me several questions which I deemed none of their business. They wanted to know if I've ever been to Europe, they asked me what I did for a living, and one girl even made a joke about me barely opening my front door. One girl expressed that all I needed to do to help them was ask them how they get their points for the contest.
Me: How do you get your points for your contest
Girls: We sell these... *whipping out a brochure with magazines on it*
Me: Oh, I don't want to buy any magazines
Girls: Would you like to donate any money to us for beer? They said they were kidding but I wasn't amused.
Me: I'm sorry, not interested, but good luck girls.
Moral of this story: This is a huge scam people!
These girls are hired by an outside source to come to homes for the following:
1. See if people are at home
2. Check out what you have in your home. (They wanted to come in out of the cold, but I refused). This may work on men more than women because they were cute teenage girls.
3. They ask what you do for a living saying they get more points for particular occupations. (Again, just trying to calculate which income bracket you fall in).
4. These girls then report back to their employer about what they've seen and what you've told them.
5. Don't buy any magazines because they only use this form to get your information and obviously the magazines never arrive.
I have heard about this scam before and only yesterday saw it with my own eyes. It's scary to know that these types of things go on everyday, but if we are aware then we can prevent them from taking advantage of us.

Yikes! See that is another reason I love living in a small town, the kids that come to my door are usually kids that I know or are related to!LOL! Thanks for the tip though, because you never know anymore!!
xoxo~Meg
Omg, people are ridiculous! All the time they spend scamming people, they could go out and get a nice job!! I love living on base so I don't have to deal with that. The last stranger who came to my door was a little girl who was selling girl scout cookies... yum.
I never open the door when my door bell rings, especially if I am home by myself. Friends don't drop in unexpectedly, they call first. So if you are ringing my bell to sell something--sorry go away!!!
Or unless you are delivering a pizza!!
